Getting Here
Lake Almanor is an undiscovered mountain reservoir located on the scenic high country plateau where the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountains meet. Almanor is a shimmering lake about half the size of Tahoe and reminiscent of what Tahoe was 50 years ago.

One arrives at Trailhead by some of the most scenic mountain roads in Northern California. Only 4 hours from the Bay Area, 2 1/2 hours from Sacramento or 2 hours from Reno, Lake Almanor is an easy destination. Some of California’s most scenic all-weather highways lead to the Lake. Highways 36 and 32 provide access from Interstate 5 at Chico and Red Bluff. Highway 89 connects to Interstate 80 at Truckee and Highway 395 is a direct route from Reno. The road from the south end of the Lake to Oroville travels along the Feather River, arguably one of the most beautiful drives in all of California. Lake Almanor’s lower elevation means the mountain roads rarely encounter the closures that occur on Interstate 80.

Trailhead lies along the eastern shore of Lake Almanor at Peninsula Village. The community’s entry is on Big Cove Road just off of A-13.
